Choosing The Right Bathroom Fan

July 7th, 2023
How to Choose the Right Bathroom Fan

Is your bathroom fan humming sound or no sound?

Replacing just the motor is possible but can end up costing as much as a new fan.  We recommend installing a newer model fan as they can also be more energy efficient.

How to Choose the Right Bathroom Fan

There are a few factors to consider when choosing the right bathroom fan:

Size: Make sure the fan is appropriately sized for your bathroom. A fan that is too small will not effectively remove moisture and odors, while a fan that is too large will be unnecessarily expensive to operate.

Noise level: Consider the noise level of the fan. If the bathroom is adjacent to a bedroom or other living space, you may want to choose a fan that operates quietly.

Airflow: The airflow rating of the fan, measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM), is important to consider. The higher the CFM, the more air the fan can move.

Energy efficiency: Look for a fan with a high energy efficiency rating to save on energy costs.

Price: Determine your budget and look for a fan that fits within it.

Quality: Consider the quality and brand reputation of the fan. It's important to choose a fan that is well-made and will last for many years.

Installation: Make sure the fan you choose is easy to install or consider hiring a professional to do the installation for you.

Factors to consider for CFM power is.. How big is the washroom? What is the distance between the toilet and the shower? How high is the ceiling?  Most fans have an optional selector switch 80- 110CFM.

Sound scone explanation:

  • .03 sound scones is high end
  • .07 is also reasonable
  • 1.0 is fairly loud for most newer model fans

NOTE: A higher CFM is usually correlated with a higher sound scone level.

Yes, bathroom fans do need proper maintenance and upkeep.  You should be able to remove the cover of the fan yourself.  Don't be shy to ask our technicians to show you how.  Cleaning the cover plate and vacuuming the inside semi-annually is all you need to do.
