Hot Tub Electrical Power

IT'S HOT TUB TIME!  Always an exciting time when we visit clients who have just bought a hot tub.  Before you jump in though there are a few things you should know.

If possible, before you land the tub it would be great to have a 1" PVC pipe going from the disconnect to underneath the tub where all the controls are.  This gives the new area more of a seamless look.

First, make sure that you have enough room in your panel.  Not just physical capacity but also ampacity.  You don't want the main breaker to your home tripping off when you turn on your jets.  Give us a call we will do a house calculation to ensure you have allowable ampacity room if not we can lay out some different options.

Also, make sure there is a decent spot for a disconnect to be mounted within 5 meters and in sight of the hot tub itself.  The current electrical code requires this as they come in nice spa kits.

Another very important part is to have ground fault detection set up on all of the electrical and anything it touches.  This way if any of the electrical gets wet it shuts off before anyone can get electrocuted.
